So true. We had a (much less dramatic) shift to a rightish government around 2000 in BC. Social programs & non-acute health care were heavily cut. We've now had a leftish government in power since 2017, but little of what was lost ever came back, & social problems exploded in intervening yrs.

Knife-in-the-heart kind of stuff for anyone with their eyes half open, & all the worse in a province that used to be a "leading light" on harm reduction & led by a man who totally knows better than to let a public health crisis get tangled up in senseless "drug war" politics.

Well, I'm down with doing something about the mental health crisis, but are there actually people who think youth is one of the happiest times of life?

It is so brutally discouraging to discover that the "best hope" government is rapidly moving closer to the "please no" one in their actions on the toxic drug crisis. And meanwhile, people continue to die. Six people a day in 2024.
