Incredible conversations about #Vwoolf2025 and religion happening this year! including a panel on Sunday (feat. one annoying Irish guy), and a fabulous roundtable on the upcoming Edinburgh UP #Woolf2025 & Religion Handbook.

Really exciting stuff!!!

reading H.D.’s description of doing solo séance sessions in lonely moments during World War 2, I can’t help but think of the parallels to AI…

A striking outburst in William James’ Principals of Psychology.

After outlining the problems with all available solutions to the mind-brain problem, James suddenly attacks both Hegelian dialectics and Herbert Spencer’s agnostic scientism as “spiritual chlorophorm”.

After spending a year and a half proselytising about Jason Josephson-Storm’s The Myth of Disenchantment, the inevitable has finally happened and a friend requested the copy I’d gotten from the library.

At least transferring over all my annotations gives me a fun chance to read it again.

I’m in one of the “new“ colleges (Hughes Hall, est. 1895) and my supervisor’s in one of the Old Fancy Ones

so I’ve developed a tradition of taking a selfie in Trinity’s Great Court every time I get feedback on a piece of work, to celebrate not being told that I’m actually an evil fraud

I’ve only read bits and pieces here and there really!

But I really recommend the Desmond Reader; he has interesting concepts scattered through his (very long) major works, and this volume manages to do a great job of presenting them in self-contain snippets that gets the bones of his system across.

this #ModWrite, I checked my spam folder only to discover an acceptance for this year’s #Woolf2025 conference in KCL and Sussex!

hours later, I got accepted for an exciting new edited collection with a proposal on D. H. Lawrence and the Unknowable, exploring the links between Spencer & Blavatsky!

this #modwrite I’m posting niche D. H. Lawrence memes while procrastinating for my real task:

polishing off a belated chapter draft before the end of the year, on how Lawrence’s readings of Spencer and Blavatsky dramatise what I dub “the battle for the Unknowable” in late-19th/early-20th c. thought

This #ModWrite, I’m brushing back up on my early H.D. for the first meeting of the Whichcote Society’s year of H.D.-related events!

Convinced that the Penguin/Pelican Freud Library was one of the most ambitious and impressive editorial projects of its kind aimed a general readership.

They managed to organise the Standard Edition down to individually useful, thematically coherent volumes, while still being incredibly thorough.
