Baltimore is so scary that women and girls have picnics in the park.

“Reflexive control” is a cynical strategy, from the fmr. USSR. Carefully-designed provocations manipulate people into responding reflexively.

E.g: courthouse arrests provoke legal immigrants to skip court dates, justifying their arrest.

Creativity is the antithesis of reflex.

The “enemy” is not a person. If it were, it could be confined. It is a constellation of habits, beliefs, language, actions, and reactions. It is a cultural ecosystem founded on fear, embracing scarcity, suspicion, and shame.

So now a temporary protective order in a civil domestic case is a reason to deport someone who has committed no crime and is lawfully in this country?

But the same alleged behavior is fine for higher office?

Ok, . . . .

If you need a taser to protect yourself from constituents who disagree with you, then you’re doing Constitutional democracy wrong.

We are not blameless for the misogyny that is the heart of this regime; misogyny, being so deeply-rooted, easily crosses gender, race, party & ideological lines to show up in ostensibly pro-democracy material. Check that, everybody. Neither gender nor race nor political identity makes us immune.

In response to threats against Maine’s public education system, pro-democracy states should form a mutual-aid pact.

Understand “reflexive control”.
We are being manipulated and provoked to respond in predictable ways. Instead of responding predictably, pause, and respond by creatively reframing the problem. Or by not responding, and instead following your own agenda.

This is core nonviolent civil resistance.

Some months ago I had an odd message at meeting, where I was a visitor, featuring this mural in Cambridge MD. I didn’t fully understand it until now.
It was about leaders being defined by followers. Artist: Michael Rosato

Shaming people is a form of violence.
It has no useful place in a nonviolent movement, Gandhi taught.
Let’s make the pivot.
What you are FOR, & why?
We won’t get to 3% by using shame and humiliation. It fuels retribution.
How is our future better than the status quo?
