Why does this come as absolutely no surprise?

I can see why they had to play down rejoining for the election. Just to stop the RW from turning it into a Brexit rerun when there was so much else to deal with. But when does that stop? It’s time to get real about what’s needed and what people really want. Brexit has failed. As it always had to!

Which is why we need to get back in with the EU as soon as possible, in whatever way we can.

They won’t have a choice. Trump won’t tolerate them having links with his ‘competition’ in the EU, and the EU won’t tolerate the lowering of standards that a Trump deal would require.
