This Irish/English Christian is making latkes for dinner tonight using a recipe shared with me years ago by the gay, Jewish husband of a former colleague. My America.

Making the apple pie that my sons always look forward to at Thanksgiving and do a google search to see if I can locate the woman who gave me the recipe decades ago-- it would be nice to reconnect and thank her. Discover she passed last week. True story. I am thankful our paths crossed so long ago.

"I like your outfit-- it's casual but very stylish." Said to me by a 10-y-o. I'm so impressed with myself. #DayMade

Ken Burns' American Revolution series got even better when I realized one of the historians interviewed is the daughter of my favorite college professor. Now all grown up, she was the girl who would answer the door and greet me when I dropped off a paper or had a meeting with her mother.

My local farmers market just sent an email saying that, when SNAP benefits are suspended, anyone who comes to the manager's tent with their SNAP card will be given a card for $40 of fresh produce each week. The email included a link for those who can help cover these costs. Community.

One of the greats. Jack DeJohnette, taken during a set he played with Ravi Coltrane and Matt Garrison. Thank you, sir, for all you gave us.

The Portland Frog army has now infiltrated Tulsa, OK and they’ve made an unlikely alliance with the T-Rex infantry and Sharks on Hoverboards mercenary forces.

This is truly terrifying.

An old friend, someone I've not talked with in a long while, sent me a text this evening, a photo of an amazing color-streaked sky with clouds rolling in. His text read,

Been in a NYer's 9/11 funk all day. Came home and waved to the newly immigrant family renting the little place next door-- hadn't seen them in a while. The dad calls over that his 4-y-o daughter wants to give me a hug. "I'd love one!" She doesn't speak much English, but...

This year's anniversary is hitting harder than usual. I mean-- how am I supposed to feel good about American and NYC when the #Yankees are holding a moment of silence for a white supremacist?

Sending hugs to all my NYers, those of us who can still remember the smell and even the taste of the smoke. There is no way to adequately describe that day to anyone who wasn't there, but we remember. 💙

When one of your jazz student calls and you text her that you can't talk now because you're at the Blue Note listening to a sublime set with Christian McBride and Brad Mehldau and she replies that she knows-- she's here, too, and she can see me. #thekidsarealright

As a book reviewer for a newspaper, I receive announcements about upcoming releases all the time. But this morning I got one for a book expected out in 2026.

TwentySIX? I'm still coming to terms with summer ending in a couple weeks. I do not want to hear about next year.
