Uit een recente steekproef van de ngo European Pesticide Action Network PAN blijkt dat 53 van de 65 onderzochte producten uit 16 landen besmet zijn. Het gaat onder meer om brood, ontbijtgranen, bloem en zelfs pepernoten. Volgens professor milieuchemie Jacob de Boer VU Amsterdam is het probleem eenvoudig te verhelpen door fluorhoudende pesticiden, waaruit TFA ontstaat, te verbieden, maar ontbreekt de politieke urgentie.
