If a Republican talking head claims that protesters are being paid, it is journalistic malpractice not to ask how much they are being paid.

It is inconceivable that they would know the fact of, but not the compensation amounts. They run the FBI and the protesters are ANTIFA after all...
Sean Duffy: "The No Kings protest, Maria, really frustrating. This is part of antifa, paid protesters. It begs the question who's funding it."

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

In late September, Donald Trump designated Antifa a domestic terror organization. Today, we’re tracking the meaning and history of antifascist protest — from 1930’s Europe, to today — and asking: how ...

I spoke with the NYT Magazine a while ago but have now heard that an editor said they can't quote me because I'm "too liberal" to be a trusted source.

You know what's always the first example conservatives use to claim I'm "too liberal"?

After Charlie Kirk's death, teachers and professors nationwide fired or disciplined over social media posts
At least a dozen faculty and staff have faced fallout over insensitive comments online.

From an Atlantic editor.

I cannot get over how the entire centrist hivemind is attempting to wish into existence a person, and a movement, that does not exist. You are journalists, you are supposed to describe things as they are, not how you want them to be!

"Harvard can't use race as a factor in admissions, but ICE can use race as a factor in detentions" is a retrenchment essentially to a pre-Civil War understanding of the Constitution. It's vanishingly few steps removed from "Latinos have no rights which the white man is bound to respect."

Idaho approved a strict parental consent law last year.

The only thing getting me through the day watching this administration is, they are so fucking bad at this
my thesis for where things are at is its very scary that there isn't civil society mobilization against such a horrifying moment in our history, but also this house of cards could fall apart incredibly quickly because they've really not done any of the work needed to backstop a political collapse
its genuinely wild how this administration is all just cargo cult authoritarianism, no understand of how authoritarian systems function, pure fake it till you make it behavior

This is the thing right here. People who do not believe in democracy should have no say in how it operates.
I keep saying this but it remains true: Dems have not learned the central lesson of Reconstruction, that multiracial democracy cannot survive when those working to overthrow the rule of law & fair elections are allowed to operate with impunity.
the problem for Ds right now is not winning elections. they are doing fine at winning elections.

the problem is what happens *between elections.* as in, if you don't fight fascism between elections, election outcomes start not to matter. 1

I think the best interpretation of statements like these (both Third Way's and Nichols') is as "Trojan horse propaganda": statements that function as propaganda not because of what they say directly, but the meaning they smuggle in (as most of the replies and QTs are picking up on!)
It would be a huge step forward for Democrats and for general clarity in political writing if these terms went away. These came mostly from academic hothouses.

A fascist takeover of a city is not a game. It's not a distraction. It's just fascism. Maybe if there had been a REAL competition for speaker, instead of Pelosi anointing a successor, Dems would be in a position to call fascism what it is.

Texas Democrats show that all of their protestation at redistricting was just theater. They're all back in Texas, willfully allowing Republicans to further destroy representative liberal democracy.

That's why these systems don't work. Raw power doesn't balk at weak symbolic stands w/ no backbone.
