If you measure a museum by its stairways, well, The Courtauld Gallery in central London would be near the top of the list. Its collection ranks highly for me, too, but this photograph of the stairwell caught my eye this morning as I looked back on a recent visit.

It’s snowing outside, and here’s Teddy ignoring my attempt to ignore him asking me to put him outside for the fourth time this morning.

Not a particularly great morning, as I’m waking to read the news that Martin Parr has passed away. I’ve enjoyed learning about his work and life over the last several years as my interest in photography and photographers has grown.

Here's the scene and setup for the supermoon photo I posted earlier this week. I was all alone on the banks of the river...or so I thought. You can see a coyote (I think!) walk around a cluster of trees at the end of this clip. He or she noticed me noticing him...and quickly darted away.

We've had quite the run of supermoons lately - last night's was the third of four in a row. The "cold moon" as it's known lived up to its name…I can confirm that it was quite cold down by the river as I waited for it to climb above the river (and bridge!).

I caught this glimpse of the sunrise as I walked away from a spot I had picked for a recent sunrise shoot. I was done for the morning, or so I thought. Didn't expect that…or that black and white would work for a sunrise photograph. I think it does.

This rock is on the way to a favorite photography spot of mine. I rarely think much about it, but noticed it in this perfect light awhile back, and thought it was beautiful. The right light just has a way of doing that.

Is that a Roman arch within a Gothic arch? Why yes, yes it is.

Licensed to Deal in Game.

I love the period at the end, not sure why. Like the period in the Wall Street Journal masthead.

Blue Grass Island in the Maumee River is undeveloped, but does have a couple of clearings on it. This lone tree stands near the edge of one of them and provided a nice frame for the sun as it rose over the Maumee River and the tree line of the island.

Morning arrives in downtown. The street is quiet… for now.

The lines and colors of my daily commute are pretty amazing.

I went downtown early in the morning to get a shot I've been thinking about for awhile. I walked around a corner after getting that shot and found this interesting angle.

This is the view I see every morning on the way into the office. Well, nearly every morning. The sunrise doesn't always cooperate and sometimes a ship at the dock blocks the view. I finally captured a photograph of it.

There's an old phone booth near the entrance to Embankment Station of the London Underground. I went in just to sort of check it out but quickly realized its panes of glass provided some nice framing for people in the to and fro for the Tube. So I grabbed a few frames.

A non-functional old phone booth provided a perfect place to rest my camera for a slow shutter speed shot of people walking toward Embankment Station of the London Underground.

Out come the umbrellas.

Remember when you'd sit in a public place and just… sit. Maybe people watch a bit? Very few people do that these days. The phone seems to come out almost automatically. Sometimes I wonder what "bored thinking" we're losing as a result. It's not nothing, I know that.

This photo is the reason (well, one of the reasons) why I haven't started using "AI-powered culling" in my photography workflow. Nothing in it is in focus. Nothing. Yet, for some reason, I love the photo. And I suspect every AI culling tool out there would have killed it.

The trench coat was just too much…I had to capture this scene. I have no idea who she is or where she's going, but I'm intrigued.

I love the contrast in this photo… the energy of traffic racing by Trafalgar Square and the stoic nature of Elizabeth Tower standing calmly in the background. Familiar stability backstopping the chaotic nature of daily life. Love it.
