Just another neurodivergent techie. Expect to see me talk about computer networks, feminism, human rights, and autism--and how they are connected. Delcared un-American by the US government.
It is trans awareness week, but I would settle for “recognize trans folk as human” week.

When I came out as trans, I got treated as a woman immediately.

One friend (unprompted) explained why he wouldn’t fuck me (but would be open to me giving him oral sex).

A family member asked if I ”trick” men in bars.

I was told I am prettier if I smile.

All within one week of going full time.

The summer my daughter was 15, she participated in a science camp. And even though the camp bus dropped her off less than a half mile from our home, I had to pick her up from the bus stop. Because the camp required that parents pick up their minor children.

This post is not about a bus stop.

And I'll name one of mine: Sometimes I tell my airline I have trouble hearing (since I won't understand in-flight safety announcements if they are ever needed). That pretty much guarantees they'll have a wheelchair with my name on it when I land, which, for some reason, does not help me hear.
Disabled folks, what are some useless accommodations/adjustments you've seen offered? Like good intent, bad implementation?

I'm thinking about how (many) neurotypicals think autistics are broken because we don't like doing immoral shit even in private. (seriously, researchers attribute our apparently lower level of hypocrisy to deficits).

Most people do *not* want to have sex with 15-year-olds.

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

Why Won’t the U.S. Stop Child Marriage?

A majority of Americans assume #childmarriage is illegal in the U.S. but in fact, it's prevalent here and LEGAL IN 34 STATES. Lack of a strong legal framework to prevent it in the U.S. contributes to its prevalence.

I wonder what real door dash wages are (not “per delivery” but per shift) this year compared to previous years…

I think a lot of this cones down to what you see the purpose of education as. Is it to give you privileges or is it to give you understanding? I suspect that is the root of the “they are indoctrinating me!” garbage.
I routinely disagrees with my professors in essays (and got A’s) for my recent degree. heck one prof commented, “I can always count on Joelle telling me what was wrong with the class readings” which was a compliment. They want thinking, not indoctrination.
Okay so I once asked Nikki Haley why she kept bringing up this one set piece in her stump speech, which was about her son vaguely having to lie just to get an A in college.

It didn’t go super well

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) in the USA are a scam. Really. You cannot save enough money to cover cancer.

I asked Google, "How far is Welington, NZ from Sydney, AU?

First page results: Everything from a few hundred km (probably confusing Wellington, NZ for Wellington, AU) to 22,000 km which isn't even possible because that would be *more* than halfway around the earth. Enshitification.

I am glad I learned how I travel best. I ended up being delayed due to a broken plane which meant I arrived a day later than I expected. On longer trips I schedule a low key day for day after arrival with nothing I will miss not doing. I usually use it to explore. #ActuallyAutistic

Also, queer representation is down right now, in a culture that’s increasingly hostile to us. So we need more stories beyond the pattern of “assimilated queer couple, likely where one dies”. We deserve a wider range of queer lives on screen.

As many of you know, a handful of Dem Sens have voted on a CR that keeps the government funded until Jan 30, which would end the shutdown. For those watching for anti-trans provisions, there are none in the CR.

Senate Vets-MilCon, Leg, Ag minibus bills for FY26 have no riders.
Dems have spent the past two months saying they're fighting to address the crisis of spiking healthcare costs and now they're caving for a deal that does nothing to address healthcare costs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
