If it was his aircraft, could possibly have been on the way to Khmeimim airbase to meet up with the Russian cargo aircraft (3 IL-76 and 1 AN-124) that reportedly arrived earlier to pack up the base. Russians probably spoofed the GPS/ATS of the aircraft to show a different route. (edited)
