In the UK disabled women are nearly twice as likely to experience sexual violence than non disabled women.

This is why I’m asking men to be aware of how they approach a situation where a disabled woman may need assistance.

Be the aware safe nice helpful dude in your approach, actions & words.

If you are a man & need to offer assistance to a blind woman just think about how you can make the situation as safe as possible.

Introduce yourself & give an immediately explanation. “Hi I’m Mike, there is a car blocking the way how can I best assist you?”

Never touch without asking.

I am incredibly proud of Kwame Baffour-Awuah, first author on the paper. This work was inspired by the essay he entered in the Esme Umbrella's medical student essay competition. It was a pleasure to work with Kwame on this.
