An interesting qualitative study of Long-Term Athletic Development. Highly competitive environments too early in athletic career can have lasting negative consequences.

How to make money in the upper Midwest:
1) Take a handful of plain ripple potato chips.
2) Coat chips in milk chocolate.
3) Sell chocolate-coated chips at 1000% mark-up.
4) Profit.

A rough-legged hawk (I think) and a snowy owl (right) snacking on a rabbit carcass.

I like this opening passage from Latham (2003). He describes the superordinate goal captures the "heart." In other words, goals are moderated by emotive factors. Without the desire or passion to chase a goal, we are less likely to achieve the goal.

“Just as it would be incorrect to claim that 10 to 12 sessions of cognitive behavioral therapy result in full remission of depression, it is equally misguided to suggest that exercise alone can resolve deeply complex mental health issues.“ #exercise #mentalhealth

My fav unit in Exercise Testing & Rx: My students learned how behavior models are developed & then created an Exercise Avoidance model. They collaborated, debated, & refined it to a few factors. Then they developed a questionnaire to test it, all interleaved with why people avoid exercise. 🤌 🤌 #edu
