Horrific.

If you think the consent decree is “reforming” Mpls cops please consider: “Chicago is nearly seven years into a state consent decree that is intended in part to address issues with the department’s promotions system”
Horrifying story: Chicago promoted two police officers even after investigators found they engaged in sexual misconduct. That’s because the Chicago Police Department’s promotions system allows officers’ disciplinary records to be ignored.

The Chicago Police Department’s promotions system allows officers’ disciplinary records to be ignored. Despite years of reform efforts, nothing has changed.

this is one problem with urbanist spaces being male dominated - their ideas of what is safe are completely different from mine, if they even ever consider safety. it's why they'll see nothing wrong with moving buses from nicollet mall to another street - why not, they'd go faster, right?

I wonder if it's a modern phenomenon, this combo of feeling of wanting to humanely thank people stuck talking on the phone with me about health insurance, while simultaneously feeling a deep and enduring rage at how useless and imprecise the information provided is. Probably as old as bureaucracy

London is fast becoming a cycling city. As each new piece in the network appears—which has more than quadrupled from 90 to 431 km since 2016—so do new cyclists. Its infrastructure now sees a stunning 1.5 million daily users—a 43% spike since 2019—moving nearly half as many people as the Tube below.🧵

The coverup of these powerful white men’s support of & direct links to nazis and nazi ideas is a media disaster at least as bad as the Iraq WMDs fantasia. Vance listens to Yarvin! Those ideas are vicious and explicitly supremacist!
it should probably be a bigger story that the richest man on earth and leading Republican is a fucking Nazi

media needs to stop beating around the bush. this is Nazi shit.

We keep doing these pilot programs and are shocked, SHOCKED!, by the incredibly positive results each time. At what point can we just, ya know, stop with the pilots and make this policy already??? #ubi
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

The rich want us to pay higher property taxes by refusing to allow density in their enclave
As people receive their property tax notices and the City Council considers their budget, something to keep in mind is that one of the easiest ways for the city to get revenue is to simply allow new market-rate housing to be built here.

Don’t threaten me with a good time!!!
I have come to the idea that we have to collectively, brutally, ritualistically kill Target just to show capital that we truly aren’t fucking around.
Target quietly added ChatGPT in its app last week.

Interesting to read about the Seattle mayor race. One thing that sticks out is the example of big money having an effect on the race (but not quite big enough to defeat Wilson)
