Many towns and cities have public houses with fascinating frontages and facades. as is the case in this instance. Local tax records indicate that a public house has stood on the site of the Elephant and Castle on Westgate in Wakefield since at least the mid-18th century. One of the earliest

When it was built between 1866-1875, the Town Hall at Todmorden straddled the Yorkshire/Lancashire border. The Tympanum reflects that in that it includes two central female figures linked in friendship are seated on a pedestal inscribed with the names of the two counties.
