Within the last 12 months: Parable of the Sower. Finished reading it during my commute by train in LA about a month before the wildfires.
Within calendar year 2025: Reread Ursula K LeGuin's The Dispossessed

On the plus side, this likely means the review was actually double blind

What is being complained about that involves being sworn in as mayor? In fact, where is the 'complaint' in screenshoted post?

There was zero in the post about his "job performance!" If this were months ago during the campaign, Talia's post would still be reasonable!

Staning for a politician - even one i like as much as mamdani - against a simple statement of fact really isn't a good look.

I was going to complain about this post but then I looked up the actor who played him

How is this from 2013? Did not realize we were more than a dozen years into the podcast era

So far my only experience is a bad one. Voters in LA County were fooled by Villanueva who ran as a progressive (in name only), but was really the voice of the corrupt rank-and-file (those who feared or were demoted or fired for corruption/illegal behavior/use-of-force). Would love a better example!

Oh lol I just assumed this referred to a different loathsome plagiarizer Ben, Benny Johnson

Corollary to that is hygiene is more comfortable and is actually a reasonable externality, so, you know, maximize how clean you and your clothes are within reason.

*shoved into the tiniest seat possible in a hot plane after we are boarded in close to the least efficient way possible* "glad i dressed up instead of wearing clothes that maximize comfort!"

I was recently reminded of the English origins of the term soccer reading le Carre's "A Murder of Quality" (1962). Excerpt is a bunch of old-fashioned prep school asshole faculty talking about a 'less refined' colleague.

Actually it looks like it lowers prices for high-value parcels so scratch that last point (and don't tell the nimbys)
November 25, 2025 at 2:37 AM
The land price increase effect is naturally upstream of decreasing costs per unit (developer demand leads to higher prices), something the author of this post is pretty consistent about supporting! What this also does is weaken a NIMBY talking point that is hurting their property values.

land grant universities funded by federal land sales, sea grant universities initially planned to be funded by offshore leases, space grant universities funded by...uh... selling moon parcels, and sun grant universities funded installing sun blockers and making farms pay to get unblocked
