Harold on the top was actually an idea my Dad (a fellow railfan) had - we used a Bachmann Harold as it's light, then took his main propeller & the screw holding it off him and put the hook that held the sleigh the tree-topper came with underneath it. By sheer luck, it worked!

Pair of close-ups - I got the idea of using Capsule Plarail characters as ornaments from the legendary TopKaz Fatt.

For the last couple of years, my Dad & I have put up a train-themed tree in our local church's Christmas Tree Festival. And as it's the RWS 80th anniversary, we've pulled out all the stops this year.

Huge props to Longleat - this year's Festival of Light was easily the best one yet. Highly recommend it if you're in the area, ESPECIALLY if (like me) you're a fan of Wallace & Gromit.

So... I've finally played Deltarune. Just finished Chapter 4 and... it hit me hard.

Susie isn't the only one who wishes things would stay the same... much like in real life, I hope it's all gonna end OK...

I was ambivalent about this game for too long. It's absolutely amazing.

Don't get me wrong, the Splatter & Dodge ones they ended up with are fine. But I too would still love to know why they ended up with those... oh, to be a fly on the wall.

And here (from the same catalogue) is Toby...

Picked up an old Hornby catalogue during my travels and I don't recall seeing this prototype of their D261 before... actually, I honestly like it more than the final one.

Same goes for 'Arry & Bert's faces here, even if they are just the ERTL ones (placeholders, perhaps?)...

Went off to Severn Valley yesterday for their Autumn Gala.

Count how many references there are to the original sketch and other TFTOR productions and win a lifetimes* of Irn-Bru BUZZZZ!!!

So, who else enjoys revisiting the old Tales from the Other Railway audio productions? I was listening to one in particular the other day and couldn't stop laughing at the idea I had.

And if you've never heard of TFTOR, I hope you find this just as hilarious out-of-context.

Also, I recently got a new phone - as convenient as the camera is, it isn't quite as good as a conventional one.

But it is good for pictures like these.

I think it's safe to say that Didcot is definitely one of my happy places and yesterdays visit was no exception.

Great gala and that SECR 'O' Class is gorgeous.

It's funny - when I saw 'Anne' at the Severn Valley in 2022, I initially had no idea she was a former-Longleat engine.

And I knew Longleat had acquired a steam engine once, but I sadly can't recall ever seeing or riding behind No. 8... but I do remember Ceawlin and Flynn in blue (red's better).

Actually, is Percy & Harold the only time we see a Distant signal in the show before the CGI transition, where they were rendered correctly funnily enough.

(I'm not saying the model series ones look bad - they still look great, just one of those 'once you notice it' details)
August 19, 2025 at 6:42 PM
I know ultimately it's insignificant & Heisel Productions said the concrete answer better than I ever could; "They're taking creative liberties, shut up."

Besides, as great as the show crew were I know they weren't railway enthusiasts - you can tell that by looking at the signals.

We can assume that the two outer-lines are the up and down lines (MOST of the time), much like the East Coast Main Line. But if the middle line is a Fast line, is it bi-directional?
August 19, 2025 at 6:34 PM
But here's what I've always wondered: how exactly would a three-track main line work?

Most main line railways (in the UK at least) have two tracks (up and down) and the busiest of which like the ECML & WCML have four (e.g. up slow, up fast, down fast and down slow).
August 19, 2025 at 6:30 PM
I think it's safe to say that the reason why the TVS Main Line has three running tracks is because:

A. They used the two illustrations from TTRE as inspiration
B. Three tracks means you can have more trains in one shot (even if they didn't always do this)

I wouldn't however say that asking Christopher to write more Thomas-centric stories was an entirely bad idea... after all, it he hadn't written MATTTE we wouldn't have 'The Runaway.'

Another Cold Take
This episode is SO underrated - seriously, Harold's theme in this goes HARD
August 17, 2025 at 6:10 PM
It isn't a bad episode or story per say, but given that I have 4 videos & DVDs with it on it I am weary of it. And honestly, what was wrong with 'Stop Thief!'?

A Thomas-centric story that wouldn't have been too hard to film and would've been a great intro to the new series.

Cold Take
If it had been up to me, I wouldn't have adapted Thomas, Percy & the Coal. As much as it has great visuals and score like the rest of Series 2, it is rather underwhelming as is the original story (despite the latter having more interesting incidents).
August 17, 2025 at 4:52 PM
If you're curious, Keith is specifically a 'Waggon Und Maschinenbau' railbus.

Sharing something a little different today and, having spent a long time tweaking it, it's something I'm very proud of - a story! I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing it.

I really ought to post about my layout more often - it recently gained a name, "Grosvenor Road".

Sign made by The Pattern Shop - highly recommend them
