The duckie sits on the ground facing us with a treeline behind it where the forest becomes denser and darker. The ground around it is covered in pine needles, acorns, sticks and sand. I found it when I went for a swim a second time in a very small pond, after everyone else had left. Someone had left it where the trees opened up to the beach.

In the sketch, the baby frog is made bigger than it was in real life, otherwise my finger would have looked ginormous and the little frog like a smudge. It really was smaller than my fingertip and the sandpit beach was full of them, learning how to hop, still unsteady on their feet. The water was full of tadpoles that nibbled at my hand, they were adorable.

Wannabe premier Schoof onder kabinet-Wilders had het gisteren over "In alle grote en kleine daden van menselijkheid." Mond vol over menselijkheid, mededogen, terwijl hij de jure leiding geeft, onder de de facto leiding van souffleur Wilders, aan dit kabinet: de belichaming van haat, ontmenselijking, rancune, incompetentie. En nog veel meer. Hij heeft het over menselijkheid terwijl hij een ministerraad voorzit waar een bewindspersoon onderdeel van is. Een bewindspersoon die bijgestaan wordt door een medewerker die een paar jaar terug als intimidatie richting mij, mijn toenmalige huisadres had geretweet van Vizier op Links. Maar Schoof heeft gelijk. We moeten mededogen en medelijden niet uit het oog verliezen. Ik heb medelijden met Nederland. Omdat ons land zo'n kabinet niet verdient. Ik heb medelijden met Schoof. Omdat hij de geschiedenis boeken zal ingaan als de leider van de eerste extreem-rechte coalitie sinds de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Dit nooit meer.

1) It is not "Trump peace plan". It is Putin's imperial plan translated into English. 2) Any peace plan without NATO membership for Ukraine is doomed to fail. If Kyiv doesnt become a NATO member, Putin will invade the Baltics. European leaders dont get it. Kyiv should. 3) No one will send European troops to deter Russia. Kyiv should not fall into the Western trap of "security guarantees". It is all talk. 4) "Russia and peace" are not compatible. Has never been. Never will be.

My mother's bearded dragon had a visitor yesterday...

I love this photo with all my heart, especially the bird's pissed off look (he's supposed to get snacks from the gray lady).

They look like they might be teaming up but aren't the least bit interested in each other. Classic! Background is the street, several stories lower, some parked cars and a field to the right.

Sinds het begin van de oorlog heb ik zonder enige aarzeling, volledig tegen de lijn van onze vaderlandsche escalatie-experts in, vastgehouden aan het (in mijn ogen) feit dat de westerse wapenleveranties en aanvallen op RU grondgebied met westerse wapens niet tot inzet van kernwapens door Rusland zouden leiden. Dat iedere waarschuwing voor WO3 gebakken lucht was. Guess where we are. Weinig WO3 gezien. Mensen die je dan uitmaakten voor "WO3-hitsers op emotionele gronden" zeggen nu dat je niet zo alarmistisch moet zijn wanneer je zegt dat Poetin de NAVO gaat aanvallen zodra hij enigszins volledig hersteld is. Poetin begrijpen, zijn motieven en beweegredenen inzien is helemaal niet moeilijk. Zolang je realistisch naar de ontwikkelingen kijkt, zolang je weet hoe de hazen lopen in de regio en in het Kremlin. En dat gaat inderdaad moeilijk als je hoofd comfortabel gepositioneerd is in zijn endeldarmen.

Went to some lookout towers yesterday with my favorite American.
Spiral staircase in a lookout tower, in black and white. The steps disappear up into the right top corner. Sunlight illuminates the banister and the left part of the stairs, rounding the corner out of sight. Part of the next landing is visible at the top of the photo. Another lookout tower, this one on top of a hill, with some skinny trees next to it. Its staircases are in a zigzag pattern. The photo's colors have been altered to look a bit eerie: creamy white with a reddish purple and gray. It makes it so the trees seem to have ill intent.

Yes, of course I helped, but it didn't really need it.

It trundled back in the direction it came from, which turned out to be the small hiding place I'd built *years* ago.
That felt so good, seeing little buddy crawl in there.

I made an impromptu feeding station close by, just in case.

Photo of a bare tree in warm late afternoon light. About 3 feet high it has a knot that resembles Freddy Krueger's face. It also looks like it's screaming for me to get off its lawn. (Its lawn is tall weeds, red in the autumn sun.) The sky is clear and blue but fading, as it gets near to dusk.
