Haha, I had the exact same thought and did the same thing, but using markov chain matrix math.
Turns out you can get those probabilities from Pascal's triangle!
For a dN, use row N of Pascal's triangle and divide by the sum of the row.
E.g. for 1d6, it's 1 5 10 10 5 1, all divided by 32.

Ok ok, I looked into this more and the steady states are just the rows of pascal's triangle.
The 6th row of pascal's triangle is:
1 5 10 10 5 1
Dividing each of those by their sum (32) gives the probabilities I showed.
So for a d8, you could look at the 8th row of the triangle, etc.

As a finite state markov process, easily modeled using transition matrices. Can figure out how often you are at each level. E.g. for a d6:
1: 3%
2: 16%
3: 31%
4: 31%
5: 16%
6: 3%
1: 3%
2: 16%
3: 31%
4: 31%
5: 16%
6: 3%

This is so much more elegant. No dropping off the ends of the table. A built-in tendency to regress to the mean. Just one die.
Very nice!
With larger dice, getting the most extreme states will be very unlikely.

You think I'm joking? "Come on Jim, surely not *every* game..."
They made a tactics spinoff to Mario and the Raving Rabbids games, and it was amazing!
No exceptions. If you made a game, I want to see you working on a tactics spinoff. Baba Is You Tactics. Stardew Valley Tactics.

Oh they like it fine - when they are the source. You can smile all you like, so long as it's at them.

Over time, AI use makes students lazier about AI use, so then they often end up getting caught because they submit stuff without even reading it. They copy-paste and submit the AI simpering and asking them if it needs to be more professional or less technical.

Thanks, that's really interesting that it's based on a prosthetic used to cover a burn. Pretty unique.
(And for the -AI, I should set that up to go on all my searches. As is, I just ignore the AI summary BC it always lies, so I'm just doing extra scrolling for nothing.)

I didn't have any luck searching for these gloves. The AI summary tried to gaslight me that this is common on racing gloves but it's definitely not.
Maybe there's some sport where gloves like this are used, or maybe a prop designer just thought it would look cool to take the thumb off a glove.

I would like to see Clay Higgins live for a year on $80 a week in food.
We all know he spends that on one lunch.

My uncle Bill was just a guy my parents were friends with. Nobody is really confused by this - they just pretend to be stupid.
You know you're cooking when your argument is so bad that you have to pretend to be dumb enough to believe it.

I have been working out daily. It's something I've wanted to do for years. Now that I'm doing it consistently, my neck pain is way less. Huge quality of life improvement!
But I'm writing less, which feels bad.
Nobody can do it all. Not enough hours in the day.

Do it! Go one step further and put in Fourier transforms!
Oh damn, now I want to go figure out how to do that...

I don't know any term for specifically that process. If there was a word for it, I would probably have heard of it.
Aside from rounding, which it is a kind of rounding, but that's not as specific as you'd like.
And as the other reply said, it is a kind of quantizing, but that's also not specific.
