The piece got heavier and heavier as I added density. I figured out strategies to maneuver it. I have no idea how much it weighs but I can lift it (for short periods held at a very specific angle). To reposition it, I drag it slightly over the edge of my workbench, then push it up and away from me.

I’ve only ever viewed my process as additive. This is the first sculpture where I’m deliberately subtracting material.

The time-consuming, yet transformative, phase is creating “windows” by removing the rod between the diamond shapes.

Yesterday I tidied my studio

It’s such a gentle way for me
to spent time in a space
that generally holds a lot
of intensity

I vaccummed with the shop vac
Swept off my workbench
Picked up bits of welding wire
Re-organized my scrap

And then, I created something
