There was once a very pervasive cultural attitude in Europe and the Northeastern US that people in places with hot climates were lazy, gross, and inherently suspect, and I think some of the bias against air conditioning in these places today is a lingering hangover from that

Abrego Garcia's isolation is the death-in-life at the heart of concentration camp regimes. They want to present what they're doing as reasonable and therefore somehow legal while terrorizing targeted groups, claiming the power to exile anyone from society, even when it's clearly outside the law.

A postdoc in my lab with a MOSAIC K99 was notified today that the program was terminated, no new funds to be awarded after this year. To revoke the pathway to independence award is so demoralizing for an early career researcher. I thought this might be coming but it still sucks.

The new Facebook rules allow users to call gay people 'mentally ill'.
Given suicide rates amongst the LGBQT+ community are 4 times higher, primarily as a result of stignatisation, allowing such 'free speech' is a clear danger to the lives of young people.
