Old guy. Seems that I am busy doing something close to nothing. Incredibly unfazed by immobile escalators.

The media is failing us massively right now.
Glad this story is finally public but also incredible that it is taking media so long to dig up what is essentially open knowledge in these communities rn.

The fact that this, and every other Trump pardonee who has subsequently broken the law, has not ended Trump's political career, that it barely even registers on the national discourse, underlines just how far we are from a functioning democracy that values accountability.
A man pardoned by Donald Trump for his role in January 6th - he assaulted Capitol Police officers with bear spray & a metal whip - has avoided prison for child sex crimes because of the president’s sweeping pardon, despite pleading guilty to soliciting what he believed was a 15-year-old girl for sex
Trump Pardon Lets Convicted Child Sex Predator Walk Free
Andrew Taake walked free because of Trump’s pardons, despite being convicted of a child sex crime.

I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here
I did something even stupider in the Mexico City airport once, and managed not to blame Mexico.

The abject failure of the American press and news media is one of the biggest stories of our time, but who’s going to report on it?

What's most amazing is this is a completely US specific problem.

The UK conducted a definitive side by side tests of the different reading strategies in scotland in the early 2000s, found synthetic phonics overwhelmingly works best, and then did that.

Australia, NZ and Canada did it even earlier.

A thing I wrote about Schumer when Mamdani won the primary and kind of thinking about it a lot the last two days
Worth reminding everyone that the current highest ranking Democrat in America openly admits he bases his decisions on what he thinks an imaginary person would want and today he and most of his allies are struggling to understand how somebody like Mamdani won by talking to voters who actually exist

"Authoritarians worldwide have discovered how to exploit a weakness in democratic opposition: they weaponize our compassion against our principles."

This is the stuff, from @adambonica.bsky.social. All of it. "Normal politics" is wildly inadequate in the face of the far right authoritarianism.

SNAP benefits weren’t stopped by the shutdown, they were stopped by Trump’s lawbreaking.

Under US law there is a dedicated SNAP fund for shutdowns, Trump refused to spend it, lost in court, defied the court order, took the issue to the Supreme Court.

And guess what? He’s still pursuing that case.

Hey @support.bsky.team What is going on with Sarah Kendzior? Why was she suspended with no explanation? Are you doing this to lesser-known people that we’re never going to find out about?
I'm a little skeptical of this story, because she didn't have articles of impeachment ready to go on Jan 7, which I still contend was a big mistake.
It seems very goofy and un-Lurie like.

White Afrikaners looking at Trump and saying “don’t associate us with this racist!”

That’s quite a legacy.

Prominent Afrikaners are pushing back after President Trump announced no U.S. officials will attend the G20 in Johannesburg, rejecting his claims of "white persecution" in South Africa as false and politically driven.

Why the heck is Sarah Kendzior's account suspended?

Hey guys does it show my organization’s strength when faced with a prisoner’s dilemma to have a sizable splinter faction always choose to defect in exchange for nothing at all
Sounds like it. The Kirklands used to be considered too spinny and short, but the latest version is getting a lot of good reviews and comments.

Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.

The answer is to flood the party with people who will take it over and transform it.
Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.
Was it one of the recent models?

it’s important to understand that Nate Silver’s entire consciousness is filtered through the lens of being a gross nerd his entire life. the opportunity to feel like he’s one of the cool kids is something he can’t pass up, it’s load-bearing for his dork psyche.

What I can’t stop hearing is that you caved after saying forever you wouldn’t allow a cave unless one (1) demand was met, and whether the demand was ever going to be met notwithstanding, you ended the shutdown by explicitly submitting to the demand not being met
