I can't even fathom what January will look like, except probably very bad for the Trump regime.

Absent a major black swan event, I don't see a path to power consolidation for them at this point.

For a number of reasons, not just Epstein.

(Thread)
The timetable evidently has been accelerated.

What's your new predication for when we get to January?

I'll just throw a random one out there: They do release the Epstein files but only after Trump had time to preemptively pardon himself and he tells his base he had to cause it was a Dem smear job.

I'll honestly be very interested in finding out the limits of what Trump has the stomach to do if the release vote ends up with a veto-proof House majority. Would he point-blank ignore a SCOTUS order to turn over the files? Would he try to order an information purge at the DOJ?
Imagine him trying to adjourn Congress to prevent a Senate vote or veto override. Or indicting seven Senators for mortgage fraud. Or ignoring a unanimous Supreme Court order to turn over the files.

This is something else to consider--even if the Epstein scandal doesn't actually have the legs to bring Trump down on its own, he's very clearly terrified by it in a way that no previous scandal has seemed to affect him. It's possible that this could drive him to make a cascading series of mistakes.
I think the surest sign it's The Thing™️ is how much it obviously bothers Trump personally to the point that he has every lackey he can find trying to shoot it down or run cover. Hit dog hollering.
November 13, 2025 at 4:54 PM
What makes Trump so infuriating is that we've known he was like this *since 2016*, when the Access Hollywood tape was released! None of this is surprising! But because the media wants to appear "balanced" and not cover the GOP less favorably, the public has never really grasped how evil he is.
the things that are actually contained in government releases and leaks from epstein's email account alone are so deranged that anyone hearing them without context would think you were having a psychotic episode

Perfect example of political media operating under the post-truth standard that (1) distorts the facts until the parties look approximately equal, and (2) holds “do MAGA voters care?” as a higher standard than “is it true?” or “is it important for the public to know about this?”
Wild to watch playbook run cover for this particular Trump scandal
November 13, 2025 at 2:32 PM
I seriously doubt the Democratic Party's leadership has the guts to do this, but a sweeping investigation into what the Times knew and when is absolutely necessary.
Don’t forget it will also harm the NYT which will not beat the allegations that it suppressed damaging information re: Trump
November 13, 2025 at 6:18 AM
I'm not incredibly optimistic about enough of the Senate GOP defecting to impeach Trump--there aren't as many "save the children" true believers in the Senate as there are in the House. But I could see a world where some coalition of prominent R's decides to stage a coup and force Trump to resign.
At this point we have to assume that if the Epstein files are released they will
- end the Trump Presidency
- implicate many other prominent Republicans
- destroy the careers of AG Bondi and his other defenders
This is beginning to feel like the greatest scandal in American history.
Trump has done enormous harm to the country.
He is a deeply corrupt and venal man.
He is wildly unpopular, his agenda more so. He's lost the consent of the governed.
He is old, infirm & clearly no longer mentally competent to run a nation.

It is time now to start talking about him moving on👇
November 13, 2025 at 6:10 AM
Thinking about this a lot having watched Thomas Massie, Lauren Boebert, and Nancy Mace look Trump in the eye today and tell him to stuff it.

(Maybe not literally looking him in the eye, but for all purposes. There is likely no going back to MAGA "normalcy" if the files are successfully released.)
I think we underestimate the degree to which Trump embracing QAnon was a gigantic self-own. Most of the MAGA base truthfully does not care at all if he's implicated in the Epstein case, but the QAnon hardliners do care and could turn on him.

Of course, they're likely to go *further* right...
MTG isn’t really a MAGA true believer anymore. Her Q true believerness beat her sycophancy, and now she’s a groyper

What's funny is that Trump himself has made few, if any, substantive promises towards the young white male groyper-bro class. They've mostly supported him because of his offensiveness towards the people they hate. They've had no real reason besides their own prejudice to think he'd be good for them!

They are making the same mistake the GOP chairman and other heavy hitters made in 2015 and 16. “He will go away, hopefully by others acting instead of me, and then life will go on.” None of those people are in any position of influence anymore and the party is permanently corrupted.
November 12, 2025 at 8:27 PM
Yeah, this is pretty much the "fascism" trap that Democrats have been struggling to avoid since 2016. You can't call someone a fascist and then attempt to work with them as a negotiating partner within the normal realm of mainstream politics.
Even the most tepid and cautious (and you shouldn't be either) version of what we know about Trump/Epstein, if you think it's something that really merits attacking Trump at all, by necessity implies he must be removed from office. You can't shy away from saying that without seeming disingenuous.

I feel like this point is weirdly under-discussed in the discourse! Acosta himself approved Epstein's notorious sweetheart non-prosecution agreement. By elevating Acosta to the cabinet later, Trump seemed to ... pretty clearly reward that?

For the first time we see clear documents that indicate Trump was fully aware of and indifferent to Jeffrey Epsterin's criminal conduct, in which he likely participated.
It begins. Clearly incriminating evidence against president of the United States.

Anyone, incidentally, who still parrots the NCAA's stupid moralizing about the "virtues of amateurism" is either a credulous, gullible nincompoop or deliberately making a bad-faith argument because they're a fan of a team/conference that can no longer cheat its way to automatic success.
Meanwhile, teams like Alabama in football and UNC and Kansas in basketball got away with literal decades of running fake classes for athletes and paying players just barely under the table. The NCAA repeatedly and purposefully turned a blind eye while "making examples" of smaller programs.

I, for one, a glad to largely no longer recognize what was once an exploitative system that punished players for wanting to benefit from their talents, drove the best players to skip college altogether, and cracked down mercilessly on small schools while P5 programs got away with endless cheating.
I don’t even recognize college basketball anymore… and maybe that’s fine.

I’ll still cheer for the guys that wear the UNC uniform next year whether that’s Caleb Wilson or Nikola Jokic.

It’s just minor league pro basketball now.🤷‍♂️

It is deeply concerning that obvious violations of the plain text of the Posse Comitatus Act are just being handwaved away, including by judges. That will need to be one of the first things a reformed Supreme Court tackles.
It's really incredible how the norm against the deployment of the military against Americans at home has completely degraded. What this man is describing is a flagrant violation of Posse Comitatus.
Rep. Pat Harrigan: "I have asked Josh Stein, our governor, to consider working with President Trump to allow the National Guard to come into Charlotte ... use the National Guard as a force multiplier and they can a lot of load off the Charlotte PD."
