the arts cultural market is currently dependent on either highly visible performance or invisible unpaid labor with almost zero in-between. be a star or be exploited - and even those handful of off-camera artists still largely command Cult of Personality
our society is becoming incredibly hostile to creative types who are extremely uncomfortable on camera
I just saw an *art residency* where they're looking for artists who are "early career, comfortable on camera"
- ie, young and cute 😞
