Tonight on KBZK Bozeman, I’ll be talking about my experience over the last several years photographing wildfires throughout the west, solastalgia, and how we grieve a place in the wake of climate change driven disasters. The segment will be in the 5:30 news (mountain time) on KBZK www.kbzk.com/live

Climate change poses the greatest public health threat of our century, much of this can be attributed to the ways in which we will lose a sense of security, a place that feels like home, and the psychological impacts of this increased instability

Fire is part of the West’s natural cycle, but climate change and decades of suppression have made today’s fires hotter and more destructive. This year is different though. The agencies responsible for managing fire risk and active incidents are being gutted when we need these experienced people most.

The west is being impacted by yet another intense fire season. In Montana alone, there have been 7 fire starts in the last 7 days. Three of which were all in sight of each other. I saw some of it first hand, the burn area of McAllister fire with smoke from the Bivens Creek fire behind it.

The pyrocene, as coined by Stephen J. Pyne, is the very epoch of human experience The Sun Sets Midafternoon seeks to understand and connect to. That’s why I’m so honored that he agreed to write an essay for the book.

Making the photographs for The Sun Sets Midafternoon meant getting in the dirt, the ash, and the smoke. Tim Carpenter described this incredibly in his essay for the book. Preorder now on Kickstarter

I’m beyond thrilled to finally reveal that my first trade book, The Sun Sets Midafternoon will be hitting shelves later this year, published by none other than Fall Line Press. I’ve been working on this project for many years and always envisioned it, from day one as a book.

Working on some new projects in alternative process. I have a very DIY dimroom, a friend helped me build this UV exposure unit back in 2019, and we recently did the windows to do platinum, wet plate, etc.

Recent exhibition at Aurora PhotoCenter in Indianapolis, IN. Loving making these site specific wall scale installations lately. Working on kicking up a new one this week.
