100% and when you read that nonsense as a person who has experienced poverty it makes you want to take the book back and get a refund.
Poor character written by an author who has experienced poverty: My problem is that I'm $300 short on the rent and now my car is making a noise

Poor character written by a rich author: My problem is that I feel so inferior beside these beautiful, sophisticated rich people

Kate's Substack is one of the very best go-to resources for authors and publishers alike. And this entry is especially helpful.
I wrote about how to (re)build on a new social media platform. And MiniBrands Books.

HamFam take note!
this is unrelated to what my acc is usually about but i just had to say that my uni module on Children's Lit had a seminar on wordless picture books, & the essay on them from this book was brilliantly helpful for analysis & a definitional part of the lecture! loved it & hoping to read more of this
I bought this, never got round to reading it, and now probably have to give it away (hopefully).

But just wanted to share first - if ever you thought picture books were not not worthy of real study, there’s this 500 page beefcake academic textbook that ONLY COVERS PICTURE BOOKS

If you’re feeling salty about lying liars trying to gaslight folks and getting away with it, I recommend reading the extremely therapeutic I DO NOT EAT CHILDREN by Marcus Cutler. It’s got a delightful surprise ending that comes with a steaming side of schadenfreude. 📚👍🏻

logged back on to try to see some good news… there’s some… but, oh boy, I’m starting to get anxious again. How do people do this social media thing anymore?

Just axed the X (finally) and boy, does it feel good.💪

Still don’t have a lot of time to be social on the medias, but it’s good to know the x can’t call anymore😂

Definitely feeling this…
We're at that point in November where it has simultaneously gone on too long and also there's not enough left of it to do all the things I still have to get done this month.

My advice: Instead of "Sigh, yet another new social media platform," try to think "Yay, clean slate! What can I do differently here to create a social media experience I ENJOY?"

#kidlitchat I’ve always sent it out when I think that it’s the best I could make it. After a few workshops, or beta reads, and many rounds of read-aloud to myself (and my partner) and self-editing. When it doesn’t it, I go back and repeat the process.
TOPIC: What steps do you take to ensure that your work is ready to submit? Workshop it? Submit it for paid critique? Rely on the opinion of your critique group? And how do you decide it's time to click "send"? #kidlitchat

Hooray for #KidLitArtPostcard Day! 💙

I'm Jess, an artist and writer, seeking representation and fun new projects! I've illustrated several picture books, but would love to do more middle grade interiors and covers.

Fantasy is my jam and I love working on comics.✏️
