We also generated a linkage map (from the couple on the cover) and inferred local ancestry patterns. Autosomes had mosaic ancestry, while the mitochondria and some parts of Z chromosome had ancestry from one of the parental species. (7/8)

We modeled the hybridization event using multispecies coalescent models. Model C provided the best fit, lending support to a hybrid origination scenario between non-sister species. (6/8)

We also confirmed intermediate ancestry using a new clustering analysis based on sharing of haplotype junctions (junctions aslo investigated by e.g. @hybridzones.bsky.social here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... ). This method also captures local genetic structure. (5/8)

The hybrid lineage has intermediate ancestry. (4/8)

The lineage we describe is mainly inhabiting an island in the Baltic Sea and was previously designated as a subspecies (horkei) of one of the parental species (Aricia artaxerxes). (3/8)

I feel honored that our work: "On the origin of an insular hybrid butterfly lineage" was picked as "Editor's choice" and that my picture of a mating couple (🧡🤎) covers the latest issue of Evolution @journal-evo.bsky.social. Link to paper: academic.oup.com/evolut/artic... (1/8)

We applied this to map candidate loci associated with hybrid inviability in a cross of divergent wood white populations. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

Our idea was that you can increase the power of this analysis by not only sequencing those individuals that were selected for but also those that were selected against.

In the ideal case, this should create almost mirror images in allele frequency as exemplified in the plot below.

Do you want to map the loci underlying selection but you're on a budget? Let me introduce you to the concept of sequencing the living and the dead. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
