Why does eating less extend lifespan? 🧬

Mutation accumulation underpins evolution of lifespan extension by dietary restriction

We often think about saving energy or recycling waste - but we show how evolution acting on mutation load can generate longer life on low food 🧵

This is a very good point about the destruction of federal agencies but also more generally about the destruction of universities & academic freedom. It also points to why the humanities & interdisciplinary programs like gender studies & ethnic studies are so important, alongside the sciences.
It's not just #NIH. It's not just #NSF. It's not just #NASA.

The whole scientific community has to make clear that all science across fed agencies is being destroyed in the US.

We can't just ask for our particular piece of the pie. The whole pie is being thrown out - saving your bit won't work.

Today, a broad coalition of scientific professional societies who represent over 92,000 scientists are speaking out against the politicization and demonization of Federally funded science and government scientist jobs.

I want to stress the two things are simultaneously true here.

1) Musk is a weak and pathetic bully

2) his email Squid Games are deeply traumatizing, per Russell Vought’s playbook.

These are the jobs and dreams of hard-working people. Mortgages. Health insurance for their children. And he laughs.
