How have I managed to miss that LinqPad can diff arbitrary objects?

Every day a school day...

The text-adventure nerd in me is very much looking forward to reading about the history of text games, having acquired:

if50.textories.com

Between this and the open-sourcing of Zork, it's good nerd times right now ;-)

Things distracting me from useful work this week:

#1: store.steampowered.com/app/1532200/...

#2: store.steampowered.com/app/2885870/...

Very different games, but keeping me amused...

The folks at #Sitecore are bringing back their developer survey this year, after a bit of an absence.

If you work with their tech, can you take five mins to fill it out and help them understand what you're doing and what you need?

The #Sitecore user groups in London are like red buses. You wait for one, but two come along at once...

We have 2 events in September and November. Agendas will come later, but get dates in your diaries now to hear the news and what people are working on.

It's a sad reflection on the history of cinema that the first thing I think of is the Street Fighter film ;-)

TFW you actually did find a bug in .Net, and MS are fixing it for you:

This is the face of a furry idiot who forced himself into the washing machine, managed to make the drum rotate with his weight and so buried himself under the washing as it turned.

Given the speed he left the room and the distance he spread the clothes over, he seems surprisingly unbothered now...

It may be ~15 years old and very much the obvious joke, but this remains my favourite quip about the history of programming languages.

Which probably tells you something about my sense of humour...

While I do not really care for the Sportsball that I believe is on later, this owl I saw a few years back at a falconry show is indeed superb.

What is this "oven to table ware" of which you speak? I see only a convenient seat?

Me and my furry familiar are learning how to use a different sort of power tool today.

Also, why did I not realise before I started that sewing tiny magnets into cloth on a steel sewing machine would be challenging? ;-)

Frosty cronch here today. Figured you would approve.

Thanks Mastodon. Making me laugh again...

Shamelessly stolen from a Mastodon thread about strange clothing found on AliExpress, but I approve this message.

A fun evening of wine and ray tracing experiments tonight. Investigating transparent textured materials casting shadows which match the form of their surface textures...

Have both the back surface of the transparent material and the shadow cast behind displaying the shadow of the texture now...

Some of my household have grown bored of the TV and found an exciting new form of entertainment.

#ProofOfCat but sadly not proof of brains.

Despite having been here for some time now, I'm taking a moment to show my appreciation of Dilbert Stark and his works.

The nerd at the back of my head is berating me because that screenshot would have been more nerdy if I'd tweeted three fewer times...

They look like butter wouldn't melt, but The Brothers Dim here were all determinedly and energetically having a fight while all trying to chew my ear at about 4am...

Falling further down the "code optimisation" rabbit hole as I sit on an intercity train home today...

When you're casting 394361965 rays into your scene, even using for() rather than foreach() has an noticeable impact on memory churn and perf.

Knocked 1/3 off a test render time with that change.

Thanks to everyone who came out for last night's London #Sitecore user group. Great to see you all and talk through the news from Symposium. Fun to have so much stuff to talk about in the sessions and pub after.

Cheers to Dan and the Sitecore folks for hosting and to @kasaku.co.uk for organising.

This is your fault @coreysmith.co - spent my evening nerding out over raytracing code in the VS profiler...

A few 1-line changes and one slightly trickier method rewrite reduces allocations by nearly 10x, and speeds up this test scene loads.

Those low-hanging fruit were pretty low, it turns out...

I have quite a lot of spares, if you want some backups?
