Hello BlueSky! I’m Jeremy, a journalist and campaigner on social justice issues for NGOs from London. I used to work as a travel journalist, photographer and filmmaker - so expect a lot of that content as I revisit my backlog.
The antisemitic responses to the Manchester terror attack were predictable yet still depressing. Progressives and antiracists must confront the simplistic way antisemitism is treated in our spaces, and fast. My piece for Metro: metro.co.uk/2025/10/03/f...
First came the Manchester synagogue attack – then the antisemitic response
It’s depressing to admit that I could predict what I was about to see on social media.

During my years working in newsrooms, I saw firsthand the shift a lot of journalists and progressive figures have been on to copy successful rage-bait and conspiracy theory influencers.

If things continue like this, democracy doesn't stand a chance: jeremyullmannwrites.substack.com/p/were-all-c...

I have a first Substack post!

I watched Celine Song’s Materialists last night and it got me thinking how terrible we are as a society at acknowledging how love, class and money are so entangled. It got me thinking about my recent dates too.. jeremyullmannwrites.substack.com/p/what-mater...
What Materialists very nearly said about money and dating
And what my own dates taught me about it

Still wild to me that so many "savvy" folks on left and right have bought into the idea that online misinformation is overblown and doesn't really matter. From lies about migrants to transgender people to crime to election denial to climate denial, it's literally driving our country's politics.

I like Tortoise, and initially when I heard this news I was in support of the sale. Listening to Observer staff since however has changed my position and I fully support and offer them full solidarity.
With thanks to our colleagues in The Guardian’s US and Australia offices for their messages of support, as we start our first 48-hour strike to #savetheobserver

The most talked-about moment in women’s soccer last year, and indeed for the past several years, wasn’t a goal, nor a piece of skill, nor anything that happened during a match. It was an unwanted kiss given by a then-federation president to one of the game’s biggest stars.

It’s been more than a year since Luis Rubiales gave an unwanted kiss to Spanish soccer player Jennifer Hermoso. A Netflix documentary sheds new light on the incident.

I know it feels so natural to blame this on ‘shitty journalism’, but if more people realised just how dire the journalism industry is right now, they might understand how clickbait has become necessary so important journalism can be funded.

I’ve never met a journo who likes these headlines.
I've gotten so tired of news headlines that are like, "Hey we have a story for you but we want you to guess what it's about."

Screw you. If I'm going to play toddler guessing games I'd rather play with an actual toddler because it would be infinitely more pleasant.
