(I know that’s annoying to say stuff like that and I know it’s not TT—believe me, we wanted a TT line! But it’s a good place to live, great students, a pleasant department culture, and I know exactly which office you’ll get and it’s a good one)

if I asked you "how many teams would you guess are in the Big Ten conference?" you'd probably guess 10, right? well you'd be wrong, because inexplicably the number is actually 18

Academics!: do any of you have a very efficient system for budgeting through/generally dealing with the constant reimbursements? I feel like I’m always $1000+ off at any given time because of lengthy reimbursement processes, and it throws my whole personal budget off.

Kristi Noem is flat-out lying when she claims no U.S. citizen has been arrested in her violent crackdown. Do a web search on “immigration citizen arrested” and you’ll see. Here’s one of the many documented reports we found.

subtle grammatical shift I've noticed in Gen-Z:

the phrase "Having said that..." has generally meant "Having said [good thing]...[bad thing]." It highlights a contrast.

But for Gen-Z, it's "OK I said that...now I will say something else." For them, it signifies getting something out of the way.

lmao in my culture and so many immigrant communities there is a special designated name not only for your father’s cousin but also their cousin and that cousin’s child and that child’s child and that’s how you just know this stuff is written for a certain group of people only

deciding which airbnb to get when you're planning with a group is always so annoying because these airbnbs are always titled something like "Super close to town! Big kitchen!"

Chris Murphy: "There's a lot of history that has taken place in the East Wing & it was just destroyed without any conversation in the public, without any consent of Congress. It's absolutely illegal. That visual is powerful b/c you're watching destruction of the rule of law as those walls come down"

I played in my first classical chess tournament in ATL this weekend. Since I'm unranked, I was in the Under-1200 division, which is unsurprisingly mostly children. I won 3/5 matches. It's weird to feel proud of beating children at chess, but these kids are super smart, and it was a real challenge.
