Visited a couple of South Norfolk woods yesterday to see whether they'd be suitable for a fungus foray by Norfolk Fungus Study Group.

These are photos of the second wood. It's mainly old Hornbeam coppice. It was lovely but our visit was brief because of (much needed) heavy rain.

'Red Falstaff' apples.

Rescued the potbound young tree from a local garden centre ten years ago. It's now a beautiful and productive part of our garden.

A bumper crop this year, more colourful than usual. They store well in a shed.

The leaves are finally falling from our Chinese Virginia Creeper, Parthenocissus henryana.

They've been spectacular this autumn.

Although it's a vigorous plant, it is less thuggish than its American cousin, Parthenocissus quinquefolia.

A big Beefsteak Fungus, Fistulina hepatica, at the base of an oak tree near Poringland, South Norfolk.

Found while cycling home on Thursday.

Couldn't decide whether a hand or foot was a better scale marker.

This week I have mainly been on the #allotment.

Green manures have germinated and will cover the soil over winter.

Another delivery of digestate today, for use as a mulch and soil improver.

A skeleton for Halloween.

Perhaps more poignant than scary, this is Laeititia Moseley (who died in 1619) in the church of St Peter, Ousden, Suffolk.

"Suffolk's finest and scariest skeleton. She wears her shroud and grins wildly."
