The Meadow Mari (a Finno-Ugric language of the Volga region) word pareηge 'potato' at first sight seems odd ... and at second sight seems etymologically connected to France, and the Ferengi – an alien race from Star Trek.

A look into my inbox. The end of a multi-year project. That will disappear into the mist again by tomorrow morning.

(If you're waiting for a reply from me, I've either put it on my calendar to get back to thing ABC, or I've forgotten - feel free to ping me if you're feeling unsure.)
