it's interesting in that it's about an evil corporation who ginned up a demand for a service that has never been needed in human history and then captures the market they created, and also it is produced by amazon.

maybe only if you're in a sitcom mood. the premise is that a digital afterlife is the next big tech craze, with the ai ghosts being 1:1 copies of their living selves, living in a mertaverse people can visit, but someone has to pay rent on their ongoing existence.

just like a bunch goons who are so desperate for easy prey that they'll violate court orders to snatch people at daycare or school or wherever, of course they'll jump at *any* tip call and decimete whatever they find.

and i mention this because, yes, general sense of dismay at the ongoing condition of my country, but i saw a story about some little shit weasel calling ice on a car was to get out of paying for it and i realized how easily weaponisable these chuds are for any freak who calls them.

the reality is when stephen miller sets a quota of 5,000 people a day these guys are told to just go to a city and grab as many people as they can to hit the quota and worry about legality never. there's no real investigation or planning, just "go figure it out racist meatheads."

i think we conflate interpersonal cruelty with order. that's discipline, isn't it? but we can see how it plays out. the cruelty is very visible, but the order not so much. but then, an ice squad isn't a tank division. they're a police force, with broad discretion, as all cops have.

oh god i had a wedding band like that. the feeling when it's gone is surreal. just one finger experiencing lunar gravity while the rest of you is earthbound.

okay. so. recent prestige stephen king media has had a consistent tone, one that works, of oppressively dreary new england with a corrupting madness bubbling beneath the surface. it works, it's evocative of king's writing.

but king also wrote creepshow. that is a mode he operates in.
