I don't know. It's just a marvel that LA holds all the things that it holds.

I was rooting for the Dodgers in part because I've started to really like baseball, but also because there's this feeling in the air here; ICE has made life *hard*. We could use a reason to celebrate. But/and there are now videos in my feed of the LAPD tear gassing fans in Echo Park.

And, I don't know, it's not that different from how I feel about the universities I attended or the one @siobhandougall.com worked at. Large organizations do wonderful and awful things all at once. They employ awesome people and absolute jags. It's both/and.

After weeks of silence, the Dodgers announced that they would donated $1M to organizations that serve immigrants. That's a lot of money, but we all know that it's not a lot of money for the Dodgers.

Which is why it hurt so much when we all learned that ICE used the parking lot at Dodger Stadium as a staging area—where citizens spotted people who had been kidnapped at Home Depot being forced into white vans before being taken downtown. Immigrants make the team great, make LA great.

And how can you not like Ohtani, Yamamoto, Freeman, Betts? Or both Hernandezes, Rojas? Will Klein pitching in that 18-inning game? I understand why people get into the myth-making around baseball. And in LA, there's a lot of pride that the team comes from all over the world, like Angelenos do.

The side of the organization that handles "do nice things for kids" is fantastic at their job. The Dodgers put a lot of money into rebuilding the baseball field and playground at Loma Alta Park, which burned in the fire, site of tons of memories for me and my family.
