In winter I look for Seedbox, Ludwigia alternifolia, at the bottom of wet meadows. I found the small yellow flowers last August. Now the woody Seedbox fruit capsules remain in the meadow. The photo of the dried capsules is from this article the-natural-web.org/2020/02/29/t...

Today at the Connecticut Audubon Society Larsen Sanctuary: Spiny rose galls formed by cynipid wasps, which lay eggs in the plant’s tissue. The plant forms ball-like masses around the eggs.
The animal tracks across the pond are from a raccoon.
