Mixed emotions as I travel home from
Ghent after our very final @slowmemo.bsky.social retreat. I am proud of what we’ve accomplished, excited to see how we collaborate next, a bit tired - but most of all so thankful that I got to work with this absolute dream team for 4 years. Miss you already!!

Dropping off our oldest kid at uni today and feeling all the feels.

Fascinating study by @findingnature.bsky.social argues that lack of nature connectedness is “a key root of the environmental crisis” and finds around 60% decline in use of “nature words” in books between 1800 and 2020 #slowmemory

The @memstudiesassoc.bsky.social conference in Prague is drawing to a close tonight and I can only congratulate Katerina Kralova, Rose Smith & the whole team! It was wonderful to talk to so many people about @slowmemo.bsky.social and hang out with the crew!

“Cesar in Egypt” last night in the little Czech town of Znojmo was a tour de force - famous counter tenor Andreas Scholl was joined by a world class cast of Czech singers. A real treat. Now en route to the @memstudiesassoc.bsky.social in Prague!

If you are in Dorset this or next weekend, come find out about MEMO - the visionary project aiming to commemorate biodiversity loss while revitalising a local community. So happy that Nottingham Trent University continues to support and engage with MEMO!

A massive thank you to Alice Semedo & Isabel Machado Alexandre & their whole team, who put on such a wonderful and reflective conference for the #SlowMemory COST Action!!

I'm very eagerly anticipating the start of our fourth and final @slowmemo.bsky.social COST Action conference at the University of Porto tomorrow. Judging by the prep done by the stellar team led by Prof Alice Semedo, it is going to be absolutely fantastic. #slowmemory

Our weekend was dominated by (we think successful) efforts to save this little Goldfinch after our cats attacked. Welcome distraction given world events, but thinking of Iranians & Israelis trying to stay safe.

Should really make a habit of listening to my daughter’s crocheted advice.

Nice article about my grandparents. Thank you to Robin Richterich for his tireless research.

What a fantastic first day of our #SlowMemory workshop with the House of European History! We are creating an “activity book” of sorts with which visitors can explore the “Presence of the Past” temporary exhibit through a slow lens.

Important event tomorrow, featuring my brilliant friend Christina Morina.

Another productive @slowmemo.bsky.social writing retreat in the books! Nothing stimulates collaborative thinking on slow memory like a little stroll around monuments by the seaside...

Why does Tagesthemen give the AfD such a Platform? Zamperoni did not take Weidel’s rhetoric apart at all. #normalization

Once again this fantastic place has saved me - allowing me to focus on the midst of an onslaught of admin emails (and of course the misery that is world news right now).

Very excited to receive @leadavid.bsky.social's new book in the mail! Her focus is on "desire objects" and their emotional power in shaping public memory and institutions. And @columbiaup.bsky.social has once again produced a beautiful book!

There is something really comforting about spending 2 hours witnessing pure skill and mutual appreciation. In these times especially. London Philharmonic Orchestra tonight in Nottingham.

So impressed by the Futurium Berlin - a museum that tackles complex future challenges playfully but with nuance. And important: without leaving you hopeless. #slowmemory #slowhope

Really enjoyed my holiday reading: @romankrznaric.bsky.social‘s *History for Tomorrow* - lots of historical insight and reasons for “slow hope” despite polycrisis. Will no doubt inspire New Year’s resolutions to personally contribute more to building solidarity and disrupt ideas of inevitability.
