But he is a major figure within the local Cuban crowd, iirc he did actually win a plurality of the vote in Hialeah or at least some portions of it. And many older relatives of mine + their friends love him.

ok wait I just checked and I got it entirely wrong. He ran for the county-wide mayor, not just Hialeah. And actually only got 12%. It was a non-partisan race, the Dem incumbent won an outright majority while he and a much more serious GOPer (a town mayor) split most of the remainder.

One of the big influencers in that space ran for mayor of Hialeah (one of the two main Cuban enclaves here) a few years ago and lost in the GOP primary but still got like 25% of the vote. And his campaign was almost entirely just complaining about “communism”.

It’s absolutely a big part of it. Or was, I’m not sure if talk radio is as dominant but there’s online shows/podcasts/influencers in Spanish that are all strongly pro-Trump.

As a second-gen Cuban-American, the amount of racism all throughout my family is fucking insane. They look down on newer arrivals + the poor as ghetto trash basically and thus think it’s fine that they’re being persecuted because they only think the GOP is going after the bad ones.

Didn’t Katsas break with Trump once too? I don’t remember on what specifically, but that’s more than I can say for Rao who’s probably the most pro-Trump judge on that circuit.

Like man, genuinely, Trump is using a temple dedicated to the man who fought to bring an end to chattel slavery as though it were a platform at a slave market, weighing men like slabs of meat before having them beat the shit out of each other in his yard for his amusement.

His staffers have at least answered when I call, but no response beyond that.

that's in my district, and we have a "moderate" R representing us (Carlos Gimenez, our former county mayor, who also voted to overturn the 2020 election). Any day now he'll boldly stand up to his party on this.
