If Fidesz loses, then I will believe that a swing against populism is on.
Morning Bluesky.

The first big sign that Orban’s Fidesz is in trouble in Hungary. Big swing to Peter Magyar’s TISZA.

Maybe Trump really is poisoning the well for Far Right demagogues.
Hungary, Iránytű Intézet poll:

TISZA-EPP: 44% (+18)
Fidesz/KDNP-PfE: 39% (-11)
MH-ESN: 6% (+3)
DK-S&D: 4% (-6)
MKKP→G/EFA: 4%

+/- vs. 17-19 April 2024

Fieldwork: 1 December 2024 - 28 February 2026

And here's our first sighting of a capitulationist argument.

John advocates that we gather and sit down and negotiate "in good faith" with the incoming administration, and then lists a bunch of things where we should just concede.

I get why the panic around RFK Jr's appointment is focusing a lot on vaccines.

But I'm not sure we've full wrapped our heads around how much damage he could do to trans folks and people living with HIV/AIDS. There are *a lot* of medications he could target.

Just a Reminder That RFK Jr. Thinks Poppers Cause AIDS
Trump’s pick for Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services also has claimed that chemicals in water turn kids gay and refers to puberty blockers as “castration drugs.”

The thing about Twitter versus Bluesky is that the right needs liberals on Twitter to make it feel worthwhile, whereas the left doesn’t need conservatives on Bluesky to make it feel worthwhile.

This is running into Alex Jones territory. Look, the Americans just elected 3 conspiracy theories in a trench coat, we don’t need a CanCon knock off. Begging our media to call bullshit.

Highly encourage everyone to hide replies from accounts posting abusive, obnoxious or off-topic things

It’s one thing to share alternative viewpoints in a respectful way, but if they can’t use the Internet like an adult or show any understanding of basic social norms, don’t give them oxygen

If you continue to see "Invalid Handle" for a while and you've recently updated your username to use your website, you may need to reverify it.

In the meantime, give it a moment to resolve on its own 🙏

One part of our upgraded infrastructure may affect your profile.

If you see your handle now says “Invalid handle,” please reverify it by navigating to Settings > Change my handle > Type in your current handle > Verify DNS Record > Update.

(Basically, update to the same handle.)

Hi everyone.

The Onion, with the help of the Sandy Hook families, has purchased InfoWars.

We are planning on making it a very funny, very stupid website.

We have retained the services of some Onion and Clickhole Hall of Famers to pull this off.

I can't wait to show you what we have cooked up.
The Onion Buys Alex Jones’s Infowars Out of Bankruptcy
The satirical news site planned to turn Infowars into a parody of itself, mocking “weird internet personalities” who peddle conspiracy theories and health supplements.

BREAKING: Removing Toronto bike lanes will cost an estimated $48 million: “The city released a report Wednesday that calculates the cost of Doug Ford’s bid to rip up bike lanes on Yonge, Bloor and University.”

One of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen done to a city.

If you don’t want encampments in your park, you should speak up for shelters in your neighbourhood.

My Tor Ont To Star column this week on the routine blowback shelters always get and why we gotta speak for them cuz those opposing are loud & weak politicians listen to them.

Not sure why anyone thinks Poilievre would be better positioned to defend Canadian interests

Poilievre’s extremely online right-wing base would likely back Trump over Poilievre in any dispute, Trump would have as easy a time twisting Poilievre’s arm as any Republican who has tried to challenge him

The American electorate voted for Trump and Vance.

"Not all Americans..." you say. Okay, sure? But that's true of every sub-group too, whether you're talking about young people or latinos or whatever.

Americans made this choice. The exact complexion of the electorate is irrelevant now.
