Spain is very safe and the people are generally very happy. Even the northern europeans recognize that the general aura here is very positive! Also the food is healthy and tasty. No need to spend a lot to eat well. The fact that there are a LOT of older people says a lot.

I live in Valencia/Madrid, Spain right now. Also lived in Grenoble, France for a bit. Europe is underrated. No regrets!
