Jesus is strong, good, kind, and trustworthy. Francophile. Fan of Weird Al, the U.S. Constitution, and dolce far niente. "Be curious, not judgmental." Ex-GOP, politically homeless. Pastor, but not the angry, faux-macho kind.

“The best friend of a nation is he who most faithfully rebukes her for her sins—and he her worst enemy who, under the… garb of patriotism seeks to excuse or defend them.”
- Frederick Douglass

My wife just unlocked a new level of chicken pot pie.

Her recipe is already great, but this time she slow-cooked the chicken in a crock pot, shredded it, then baked it into the pot pie. The combo of slow-cooking + shredding saturated the chicken with amazing flavor and juiciness.

An end-of-season closeout hibiscus from Menards. All the beauty needed was a bigger pot and some TLC.

Do you realize how blessed we are to live in a land of immigrants?
The people in our community who've come here from somewhere else are among the nicest, friendliest, most hard-working, generous, and family-oriented people I know. And we get to enjoy amazing homemade food from around the world!

Is there anything better than having a purring cat asleep next to you with his paw stretched out to touch you because he feels safe with you?

Ukrainians are beautiful, warm, welcoming, and creative people. It's an ugly shame that the unjust Russian invasion has forced them to use their gifts to repel evil oppressors.

May the day come soon when Ukraine is again whole, safe, and free and Ukrainians can return to peaceful pursuits.

Noodle says Hi from the Fish Market. Happy Weekend!

Pretty sweet gig for a cat, if you think about it

It's worth remembering this was on full display, with smiling faces

My college buddies from West Virginia demonstrated how they also have a hand map, but it's a bit ruder than Michigan's.

Wheeling is in the middle finger
Morgantown is at the base of the thumb
Charleston is in the center

Our son and his wife on their wedding day. Stella is on the left and Sam (an older border collie rescue who loves couches and cuddles) is on the right.

Stella is looking for a ball to fetch, and Sam is asking why you're taking his picture instead of petting him.

I really think cats invented the "lazy weekend afternoon" vibe and passed it on to us. And I'm here for it.

This isn't hard; the A-10 was there all along. No love for the brrrrrrrrrrrrt?

Welp, time to invest in a plague doctor outfit.

Why was velour the fabric of the future in the 60s?

Like many, I am shocked and disturbed by the increase in angry rhetoric and political violence in our nation. It feels as though the US is pulling itself apart politically, socially, and relationally.

No, but seriously, how am I expected to get up and be productive when this beautiful boy hops up on the bed and starts purring at me?

One of the highlights of our recent vacation was an evening at a cat cafe in Vilnius. It was bright, clean, well-run, and obviously focused on cat care and well-being (as opposed to letting people do whatever they wanted). I don't think we stopped smiling the whole time we were there.

I can't understand how people knowingly spew lies, abandon reason and morality, silence their consciences, and pollute their souls. For what - money? Power? Approval?

"What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?"

Noodle is napping on our bed, and he fell asleep with one leg touching me.

Awww, I'm glad to be your security blanket, big guy. 🥰

Look at the size of that paw!

It's 70 and sunny here, and our church is next door to an elementary school. Kids on a playground is one of the best sounds.

If you can do it without being creepy, I highly recommend just sitting in a park and listening to the noise of kids being young, free, and safe.

We have a new family member!

My lovely wife thought we were understocked on cats, and they were having a sale at the Humane Society, so we are pleased to welcome Noodle! He's a 12-lb. friendly and curious male tabby.

We are slowly introducing him to Velcro, our 4 y.o. female barn cat rescue.
