OP (not Sam, the Katherine lady) is also confusing "are excellent at math" with "are rich"
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

The thing to understand about this is that this catastrophe in the UK has redounded to the political benefit of the very same people and political movement that pushed for it! Extremely perverse.
I wonder if the United States can learn anything from the last time a major industrialized country decided to isolate itself from the rest of the world?

Almost a decade after the Brexit vote, GDP in the UK is around 6-8% lower relative to peer countries. (Source: www.nber.org/papers/w34459)

There’s nothing wrong with people being so bad at their jobs that they forget how to make money.

At this point everybody should assume the health care market is going to implode at some point in the next three years and stock up on antibiotics or whatever.
I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

It’s not clear to me what the Senate bill means for CA legal weed products, but I would say that one thing you don’t do when you’re a regime trying to consolidate power is take away things that make the populace calm and sedate.

Weirdly the 2013 version of Carrie was not a third adaptation of the novel, but a second adaptation of the 1976 screenplay.
I’m sorry to have to be this guy again, but: The new film THE RUNNING MAN is not a remake of the 1987 film THE RUNNING MAN. It is a second adaptation of the 1982 novel by Stephen King.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

also, like, the die for pain was cast a year ago. the pain will continue for, at minimum, another three years. every choice now is between only bad options, and people will suffer no matter what choice is made, and senators cannot and should not be immune to that.
two contradictory ideas that i hold in my head at the same time: 1) i think the threat to both SNAP recipients and federal workers is significant enough now that even bad deals are worth making to prevent further harm, and, 2) everyone who caves now should retire in shame
