Not sure if your dissertation work could fall under one of Arnold Ventures' current grant RFPs (e.g. assets.arnoldventures.org/uploads/AV_R...) but Jennifer Doleac mentioned that AV could potentially provide some bridge funding for affected researchers!

I feel like sometimes people end up “too far left to function” (or accomplish any of their goals because they ignore political realities and aren’t willing to build a coalition with anyone who doesn’t share all of their beliefs) and so anybody who isn’t that seems more centrist by comparison.

Keep cancelling. Invite and make space to bring top academics to your insititutions if they feel they have to leave US (especially post docs, PhD candidates, and pre-tenure non citizens).

I was supposed to launch the final experiment of my diss/JMP that day. We unanimously agreed to postpone (ultimately for ~2 mos) because “who can even think about anything else right now.” And yeah, same. If I get tenure, cool. If the country devolves into chaos, I guess I’ll be doing that instead.

Back of the envelope math, I was spending ~4 hours per year at gas stations. Just the time savings from home charging frees up time and certainly less stressful.

I’m dealing with a reviewer right now who wants post-hoc explanations for the weights in the synth did. Like “what do they mean” explanations. Anything I say will be sensemaking and storytelling. It’s a real obstacle.
