Notes on the purported removal of Gov. Cook:
President Trump has claimed that allegations of misrepresentations in mortgage loan applications constitute basis for Gov. Cook’s removal for “cause” from the Fed Board, a claim that comes from Trump with Cat-5 irony.

Where are the interviews with the private industry downsizing experts on executing a strategy without destroying value? Because the DOGE approach is vandalism, not downsizing.

The Musk/DOGE approach to cost-cutting destroyed 79% of the value of Twitter, accordingly to Fidelity's mark down of its Twitter shares in fall 2024. Any journalism on DOGE/federal government that doesn't include this is seriously incomplete.

The disgraceful pivot from Ukraine to Russia could be undone by three Republicans applying lessons learned from successful opposition to sanctions relief for Venezuela. Just condition support for the upcoming Continuing Resolution on renewed support for Ukraine.

This piece by Peter Baker is a searing and eloquent analysis of the betrayal by Pres. Trump of American ideals of freedom and non-aggression in the excusing of Russia and the blaming of Ukraine for the Russian invasion. We live in Orwellian times. "We were always at war with Eastasia."

The gist of the Furman article is that the pent-up demand (and financial capacity) of many Americans post-Covid meant that the fiscal stimulus of the Recovery Act was excessive and was a major contributor to the inflation that undid the Dems electorally.

Jason Furman has published a critical appraisal of the post-neoliberal approach of Bidenomics in Foreign Affairs. Worth serious consideration and reflection.

Anyone shocked by the line of billionaires shelling out $1 mm for the Trump inauguration? Bezos, Zuckerberg, Altman all reported. Presumably others. This is like the nobles paying tribute to the King, to curry favor and avoid wrath. What have we come to in the United States?

@joshtpm.bsky.social re Mayor Adams looking for a Trump pardon: Alvin Bragg can follow up with his own prosecution. The official act was waiver of a NYC requirement for a C/O.

Re recent Cabinet nominations: can the 25th Amendment be invoked before a President is sworn in? Maybe he is auditioning to become a writer at SNL.
