restaurant profit margins are thin enough, but any restaurants that heavily feature coconut milk, fish sauce, gochujang, teff, berebere, cumin, sichuan pepper, avocado, black vinegar, chili crisp oil, cardamom, tamarind, or soy sauce are in for a world of pain

My friend’s dad who is a writer is starting treatment on 4/1 for an incurable illness. His life’s dream is that people buy and read his books. Fam, do your magic and pls get it (it’s only $3), review and/or share this post! Would love to raise his spirits on a day he needs it most.

I wanted to learn more about my family’s history in Cambodia and got tickets to “Cambodian Rock Band” (a part-play part-concert). It covered Cambodia’s ‘70s rock music culture and the country’s heartbreaking history. I was wowed by the whole performance. If you’re in LA, I highly recommend it.

Hey: If you made it through the week, and you tried to do some things to help other people — large or small — where you could, and you need to hear it, I’m here to tell you thank you. Get some rest. Figure out today, then figure out tomorrow.

Can't imagine my memoir project, writing life nor my human heart w/o @tinhouse.bsky.social Winter Workshop & our brilliant CNF workshop leader @nicolechung.bsky.social. "Back to writing" never felt so good! Deep thanks to @almajor.bsky.social & Lance Cleland for investing so much in us as writers.

We dreamers chase that perfect line of dialogue, open or close doors, and fall down rabbit holes to be the storytellers we aspire to be. Thanks Tin House @tinhouse.bsky.social for giving us an excuse to find each other in the Los Angeles area to create new writer community. #gratitude #amwriting

I loved the Scholastic Book Fair growing up and seeing those books on the shelves made me want to become a writer one day. And it feels extra poignant that I’m volunteering at my kid’s one on the same week I’m in the @tinhouse.bsky.social winter writers workshop working on my memoir. Full circle. 🥹

more than ever, reading is a deep comfort. i feel held. and respected. words mean things. people mean more than language can describe. but the writer tries, anyway. and language is more than gold. language is loved. i feel loved.

Every time I see anything made in this LA shape (even in an everything-bagel form), I feel pride for my city. Did a bagel from the new Boichik Bagels in Los Feliz make me emotional today?? Yes it did.
