Hyperfocused for the weekend and came out with a better lighting setup, now with global ambient/cast shadows and customisable light direction for per-area art direction.
this + the automation toolset I've been scripting should help make things pretty going forward

Spent an hour tonight writing a script to compensate for a flaw in my original tooling, wherein a failure to properly scan the scene for conflicting names before extra tags was leading to Blender auto-numbering on top.
Feeling way more confident in my Python and pleased with how quick I got there!

To take a break from wrangling polygons and UVs, I started work on a skybox today. It's got a long way to go but damn, a bit of depth brings everything to life in a way I could never have imagined.
Been a while since I've tried anything 2D like this and I'm pleasantly surprised!

Okay I lied, more assets!! Probably best to to finish up these first two sections to a certain degree of polish before leaving them for a good while to get the next design phase underway.
I pinched the base of this toll gate from Speed Highway and modified it to be more Radical!

I think that's finally it for my overindulgent art style test. Pretty soon I'll get to bringing all of this in engine and polishing up the gameplay itself before the next asset sprint!

I've been making a selection of modular wall assets recently, so a good chunk of the core art is ready and waiting population across the stage now.
It's a great feeling seeing things come together - the screenshot on the right is the same area before any terrain assets were created.

One of the first alternate routes in RDH puts the player on scaffolding below an in-construction bridge. I'm reusing assets from retail Gens to speed this along, but hopefully it should still have a personality of its own when remixed like this.

Today's mini-win: I've finished the collision generator for my road tool! That means the last major function is done, and I can get to work using it once I've polished up a couple more things 🎉🦔🌉

Most of my effort since the summer (can you tell available time has only just ramped up recently😅) has been spent putting together a tool to generate the roads in my mod - everything here was created from one coordinate.
Tonight I've been building some new functions. So very nearly done with this 🦔

With last post in mind, last night @funcmathias.bsky.social generously sent me a half hour blind playtest of the main act!
I learnt so much about players' first impressions from it, and suddenly my Notion is looking a lot less complete again😅
Looking forward to returning to set object placement soon

I think what I might do, is try out using bsky for granular updates of this Radical Highway mod where I've got a few fewer eyes and can be more self-indulgent, but continue posting proper milestones to twt for the outreach!
