“Quaver, Hook & Worm” was accepted by jury to the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour 100th Annual Open Water Exhibition. I’m pleased 🤗 because people don’t believe me when I say that this is what watercolour can do. And here we are.

Humbled to have my watercolour painting, “Beside Himself” selected as a Top Ten Finalist in this juried art exhibition of 105 amazing artworks. Thanks to the esteemed judges Celine Cardineau, Fabian Jean and Carlos Salamanca for their thoughtful consideration, and to Artists in Montreal. So happy!

This is a rough sketch of my next painting. The concept is fairly straightforward: a young man is pictured from the waist up and he has a big hole in his torso. We can see right through the hole to the other side. Inside the hole are some butterflies flying around. One of his arms is held up in a gesture. His face is contemplative and he is blowing out of breath, and along this breath is a butterfly. It is as if he is blowing out the butterfly from inside of him. Since this is just a sketch to determine the darks and lights, the drawing is very rough. But I will be rendering it in watercolour as a painting.

This is a work in progress image of my watercolour painting. It shows a young woman head and shoulders with two birds, one is on her shoulder, and the other is inflate near the other side of her head. She has a giggling expression on her face, the bird that is in flight is pulling a worm out of her ear, whilst the other bird perched on her shoulder is singing a musical note into her other ear. Because this is a working progress, it is not finished. The background is green, and the face only has a few layers of skin tones painted in.

It is richly upholstered and embroidered with stars, a nod to the sitters celestial status. This is a close-up of my watercolour painting, Momentum. On the planet, we can see whether systems between the continents of Africa, Europe, and north and South America. The background is outer space. This is a watercolour painting I created, with a lot of pale blue and pink colours showing a wintry and cold landscape. There is a crack in the ice coming from the left, and a child in a yellow raincoat is riding a bright red umbrella across this ice, dragging her hand along the crack, as if she is opening the ice herself. With a mitten hand trailing, a child travelling across the arctic ice by umbrella, effortless opens the glacier surface to reveal mysterious waters; a poetic daydream. In an escape to the most distant and inhospitable place one can think of, one find serenity, calm, and control over one’s own destiny.
