More or less universally a country seeking to limit foreigners studying in that country is a sign of a society, culture, great power in severe decline.

If you’re not white, or you have friends or loved ones who aren’t white, or you’re not a total sociopath and therefore care about fellow humans who aren’t white, you need to understand this regime thinks not being white is inherently suspect, and lots of your fellow Americans are fine with that.

Yep. Sort of related: Trump got some votes by promising "free IVF," and clearly will never do that. (Pro-lifers don't want it.)

So do the 2028 Dems grab that idea and run with it? Or does a room of 30 consultants convince them it's risky bc 60 Minutes might ask "how do you pay for it?"
I know it's probably cliche at this point, but I don't think we talk enough about how incoherent rhetoric is popular but incoherent policy is not.

I’ve been in New York riding the subway with my seven month old daughter for the past several days and I feel much safer doing that than pushing her stroller across a busy street in most of the rest of the country or taking her in a car on the freeway.

Apparently, "in 2016 engineers warned that Kerr County faced a high risk of a devastating flood. They recommended high-water sensors, river gauges, and automated alerts to protect lives. FEMA and NOAA offered funding pathways, but local Republican leadership rejected those recommendations."

I got permission to share this, and I'm extremely grateful for that.

The Onion got this letter from one of our subscribers in Alaska. She works with dementia patients and decided to leave a copy in the car for each one.

This email made my year. Read it and you'll see what I mean. People are good.

“ICE gets a bigger budget than the Marine Corps” is a simple fact that should be communicated very widely because it clearly expresses how crazy and radical this is
With this budget, ICE alone would have nearly as large a detention operation as all 50 states' prison systems combined. Bigger budget than the Marine Corps. Police-state levels of spending
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

Yeah those are punitive, they don’t serve any compensatory purpose, they should be viewed as criminal in nature with all the due process that this entails. “Civil” is BS.
NEW: The Trump admin finalized an emergency regulation, which goes into effect tomorrow, authorizing DHS to impose civil monetary penalties for immigration law violations with far less due process.

The rule could lead to DHS imposing exorbitant fines on millions of people — fines they can't afford.

Smart move, and not surprising; the litigators surely knew this was an option and had the amended complaint ready to go.

God, this is a cursed discourse, but: Souder, Breyer, and Stephens all retired when their minds were still sharp and they were years away from death. (Breyer is still with us.)

Ginsburg was uniquely selfish, and her legacy is ashes.
I always think of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She died, but I don't think that she ever declined.

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it.

- Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders.

- Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.
