Gilberto Gil composed the title track for the 1972 LP using strings, but took inspiration on the cadence of the typically Northeastern instrument.

Last year, i sat across from Lê Almeida in Rio & he asked me what i thought abt the phrase "slacker." Bemused, he said Oruã was often given the label. We discussed the film Slacker & i mentioned Superchunk's song "Slack, M*therf*cker." Nice to see them reclaim the word.
