Just finished watching the 2nd series of 'Stuff the British Stole' - a fantastic fantastic programme, presented with humour and compassion by Marc Fennell. Hugely important history that we must come to terms with. A must watch if you're into provenance or postcolonialism! #arthistory

Overheard: "You know, it's like you remember your first chocolate chip cookie, but after hundreds of chocolate chip cookies it's just another cookie, you know"

Probably the most American analogy I ever heard.

I was out for a walk with the pup today and we saw a gofer! Never seen one in real life before - thought it was a cat initially! I guess Spring is truly here 🤞🏽

#OnThisDay, 13 Mar 1990, Ertha Pascal-Trouillot became the provisional president of Haiti.

“I accepted the position in the name of Haitian women. I did it as a service to my country. I did it with love and determination.”

some helpful reminders:

-not all jews support israel
-criticizing israel is not the same as being antisemitic
-being pro-palestine does not equal being pro-hamas
-arresting someone for being pro-palestine is a violation of the first amendment
-violating someone’s first amendment rights is bad

The persistence of the autism and vaccines connection reminds me a lot of the idea of the wander womb in ancient medicine. Medical authors persist with the idea long after dissection has revealed that it isn't possible by claiming that even if it doesn't float it must shift one way or another 1/3
I got your waste, fraud, and abuse right here

It's #InternationalWomensDay! The forensic scientist Frances Glessner Lee created real crime scene dioramas to train homicide investigators in the 1940s/50s. She was troubled that patrolmen and detectives rarely knew how to secure a scene, or identify key evidence in a forensic investigation.

Teaching Latin at the moment and I think one of the most valuable things we're doing is talking about different logics of expression. Places where Latin makes subtle distinctions, but we can't in English and vice versa. An important exercise in flexible thinking!
I hate these arguments based on relevance but:

1. Latin is still exceptionally relevant
2. Everyone should have a chance to study it
3. Sitwell imagines a world of soulless worker bees who are allowed no interests
4. Doing interesting things for their own sake is an important act of resistance
