At the risk of sounding like the SNL Lester Holt sketch, I think we might actually have got him this time.

Just seems to me that putting a former President in jail for being on tape explaining his crimes might be healthier for the country than being afraid of the possible temper tantrums from people who want to breathe wildfire smoke straight from the ashtray.

There's a spectrum from "zero exclusivity / open door policy" on one end to "completely closed doors" on the other end.

Bluesky is basically in the latter camp. Where you want to be is somewhere in the middle, with just enough waiting to stoke a frenzy but not so slow people forget about you.

If you're a Republican presidential candidate, exactly what is your long-term play here? Keep defending your biggest rival for the presidency all the way until he wraps up the nomination?

I am deeply uncertain about many things in the future, but one thing I'm just about 100% on is that Mike Pence has absolutely no chance of being the GOP presidential nominee.

Pence Delivers Strong Rebuke to Trump in Campaign Announcement
The former vice president — and now rival — to Donald Trump gave his most aggressive criticism of his former boss, portraying him as unfit to be president.

Licht notwithstanding, this is the most unintentionally damning thing about the whole CNN situation.

This is minor, but detecting a changed sentence in 22 seconds is just about the worst possible example of AI's usefulness. A standard laptop running Python could probably do the same in < 1 second, I'd guess.

I think I've yet to see a content moderation policy that's significantly more sophisticated than "quickly create an ad-hoc rule responsive to the most recent controversy on the platform."

Part of me wonders whether that's actually the best you can do.

Joe Biden personally led the disastrous 2011 debt ceiling negotiations which the Obama team had to entirely unlearn for 2013.

Glad to see he’s learned exactly nothing about negotiating with economic terrorists since then. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/27/us/politics/debt-ceiling-deal.html

Anyone figure out the Bluesky (ATProto) API? Took a look at the docs and couldn't really make heads or tails of it (I'm more of an amateur hacker than a real dev). Especially interested in any Python or Ruby implementations.

Huge kudos to MLB for making this happen. Probably the single most impactful change for the better in the sport over the past decade or more.
